On April 6, I attended a dinner meeting of the Georgian Chapter at Molson House in Barrie. President Dorothy Lowry was, with good reason, proud of the turnout of over 60 supporters. I was accompanied by Treasurer Brian Nauss and Secretary-Elect Spencer Bailey (both new residents of the fair city of Barrie) as well as my husband Andre Forget, Past President of the Ottawa Valley Chapter. All attending were provided with a timely and interesting update by Kevin Carroll, Q.C., of the law firm Carroll Heyd, on Bad Faith cases as well as the recent decision of Fortin vs. LaPlante regarding the application of auto insurance to snowmobile accident-related injury claims. It is always a treat to be with the very vital and friendly Georgian Chapter. Thank you Dorothy. Chapter Delegate Harold Leiher and the rest of council of your kind hospitality. On April 12th, we held a fund raising social evening in Toronto. Approximately 90 people attended a taping of "Open Mike with Mike Bullard". It proved to be a very entertaining time for all, and raised over $1, 300.00 for the Arthritis Society. Well done Toronto! The May meetings have habitually been Election Night across the province. Perhaps you still have time to enter your name as a candidate. If you can't run, at least support your council by attending and voting. Remember - we are what you make us. Bursary winners have been determined and these will be presented at the meetings in May. Congratulations to all winners. Keep on with your courses - education is an important and never ending part of our careers. Golf season is upon us and tournaments are now being advertised. We are polishing up the clubs here in the Toronto area. Be sure to check "Without Prejudice" page 3 the "what, when and where" of upcoming functions in the OIAA, and other related Associations, as well as for interesting and important articles and news. See you next meeting! Christine G. Welton, FIIC, |
