Presidentıs Message - November 2005
We are now two and a half months post-Katrina; my sympathies go out to all of the victims and their families along the Gulf Coast. Our 75th Gala, held last month at the Westin Harbour Castle, was a success and very entertaining. It was a time not only to celebrate our associationıs history but also to honour past presidents and honorary members: without their involvement, the OIAA would not have been such a success. A thank-you has to go out to the committee members: Spencer Bailey, Jim Cameron, Kim Cameron, Norman McGlashan, Laurie Walker and Christina Welton. This month we are holding our one-day seminar, which will be followed by a panel discussion, at the Wyndham Bristol Place Hotel. The seminar will deal with the changes to the automobile legislation and the Unfair or Deceptive Acts and Practices Act. Next month will be our Christmas party at the Sheraton Centre. This is always a well-attended event, so make sure you get your tickets early. Do not forget to mark your calendars for our Trade Show, which has been moved up a week. It will be held on January 25, 2006, and our guest speaker will be George L. Cooke, president of The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company. A question has been brought up lately as to whom our association represents. From a recent survey, it appears many people think that we are an independent adjusting association, and many do not know what we do. We are made up of both company and independent claims professionals. We are here to inform our members of any changes to our industry and to promote education. We encourage company claims personnel to become active in our association, whether in Toronto or at the chapter level. Only you can make a difference to how our association operates - by becoming involved! I will talk to you next month.

Respectfully,
Stephen Martin
