President's Message - November 2004
Ypres, Vimy Ridge, Dieppe, Normandy. Only a few of the many battles where the ultimate sacrifice took place. Freedom is often taken for granted, and for those thousands of Canadian men and women who lost their lives, we remember! At all hours of the day, we adjusters are called on to respond to claims that seem like tragedies to the policyholder. As I write this, the Caribbean and U.S. coastal states have been battered by Charley, Frances and Ivan, with Jeanne off in the distance. Many of our members have responded and are on catastrophe duties in these parts most for a month at a time, and some longer. In October, the OIAA participated and supported the Gamma Iota Sigma at Fanshawe College. This is a fraternity of students enrolled in insurance education across North America. Our participation helped to promote the claims field to these students, who will soon be entering the job force.
I had the pleasure of visiting the Niagara Chapter in September. Chapter president Ken Langille was a great host. Jeff Edge and the entire golf committee organized a flawless event, with money raised for the Special Olympics, which will be in Niagara next year.
This month’s meeting details can be found on page 34. Mark Harrington of Torken Manes, our colourful speaker, will discuss adjuster Errors and Omissions, a topic of interest to all members.
Christmas is also around the corner, and details of our meeting can be found on page 35. Register early, as this is a popular event.

Respectfully,
Spencer Bailey, AIIC,
President
