President's Message - May 2004

Summer is around the corner, and I am sure that everyone is looking forward to it. All humans try their best to impress other humans throughout their lives; it is sort of a competition. We all work too hard to make sure everything is just perfect instead of settling for something a little less then perfect. Here is a thought for you: “Once you have impressed yourself, who else is there left to impress?” So while you are working on your yard this month - as we all do, hoping to make it the best-looking one on the block - make sure you impress yourself first, because once you have done that, there is no one else to impress.

As we all know, the month of March and April were election months for the association. I would like to welcome Laurie Walker to her new position as secretary of the OIAA; she brings a lot of experience with her. The two Toronto delegates, who have been re-elected are Norman McGlashan and Pat VanBakel, who also bring a lot of experience to the OIAA. Thank you very much to everyone who ran for the OIAA executive. I encourage everyone to run again, as we need your support to make the OIAA successful for its members.

I had the pleasure at our April meeting of presenting Christina Welton and Bob Carscadden with an Honourary Life Membership in the OIAA. Both Christina and Bob have supported and promoted the OIAA, as well as serving on the OIAA Executive Council for many years and truly deserve this honour. I am sure that their support and passion for the OIAA will continue for years to come. Please extend a warm congratulations to them.

I am looking forward to attending the Out-of-Town Meeting this month, hosted by the Georgian Bay Chapter in Collingwood. I personally know that the Georgian Bay Chapter has been working very hard to make it a successful event for all those who attend. So please make sure you donąt miss this event. I look forward to seeing you all there!

The month of June brings the OIAA Annual Golf Tournament, which is being held on June 11, 2004, at the Rolling Hills Golf and Country Club. This is always a sold-out event. I would like to thank our golf committee Norm McGlashan, Ian Gallagher, Mike Cowan and Kim Cameron, for all their hard work. They promise it will be a great day for everyone. And what is a tournament without great prizes? Thanks to Michael Cherrie and his Benevolent committee for their work. Most of all, thank you to all our sponsors, donors of gifts and to everyone who plans on attending: your support makes it a successful event every year.

Respectfully,
Frank Castaldo,
President
