President's Message - January 2003

We learn wisdom from failure much more than from success. We often discover what will do by finding out what will not do; and probably he who never made a mistake, never made a discovery.
Self-Help
Philip James Bailey (1816-1905)

My list is about ten items, sorry, resolutions; by the time you read my message, the number will be down to one – stop making resolutions; you never keep them. I think if we pick one or two things each month, then “goal resolution” can be achieved. You are probably thinking, “What is he talking about?” My idea is that each one of you take a pen and paper, read WP and note when the meetings are held in your particular chapter. Mark that as your number one goal; “I will attend a meeting of the OIAA.” Then follow through on that month’s goal.

Over the holiday season my family had a great time, which was spent with friends and family.

I hope everyone had a wonderful festive time during the month of December. How about that Christmas Party? Another great success! I would like to thank Norm McGlashan and his committee. We raised over $14,000.00 for the Arthritis Society.

As I look at the calendar, I cannot believe how time has flown; I only have six months left in my term.

Our annual Claims 2003 Trade Show will be happening on February 5, 2003, at the Metro Convention Centre North Hall. We have a great slate of seminars, including our guest speaker, Rob Sampson, MPP, who will discuss the new Auto Legislation during lunch.

We have over 150 vendors showing their wares; please see each and every one of them.

Also, coming up in the month of March is our second annual curling bonspiel. Please see page 46 for further information on this event.

It is that time of year at which I would like to encourage individuals who want to step up to the plate and spend some volunteer time to commit themselves to the OIAA. Please make it known to the executive that you are interested in running for Toronto Delegate. For those in our chapters, please make it known that you are interested in becoming involved in the executive in your area.

Happy New Year, and talk to you next month.

Respectfully,
