President's Message -
June 2008
There were times I thought that this message would never get
written – but here it is, the one you have all been waiting for,
the Last One!
First, the business. Hard work and dedication once again
paid off, with a completely sold-out Out of-Town Meeting held by
the Kawartha/Durham Chapter at the end of May. The comments I
received were all positive, and speaking from personal experience,
you guys did a great job. It shows that the smaller chapters can
put together an excellent event, with top-notch seminars, a great
trade show and excellent entertainment – a well-thought-out
event. Great job!
Our last event before summer is another sold-out event: our
annual golf tournament, on June 6, 2008, which sold out months in
advance. As usual, we had excellent support from members, vendors,
sponsors and prize donors. Thank you to each and every one of you
who took the time to attend this tournament and help us raise
funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada.
This is my final message as the President of the OIAA, as my
term is almost up. People have asked me if I would do it again,
and the answer is “yes and no.” Yes, I would indeed go through
the executive again: I don’t regret stepping into this
leadership role, and I have never regretted a moment as your
President. But no, I don’t need to do it again. It has been a
wonderful experience, and as I have discussed with many of you,
the best part of this job are the people I have come to meet
throughout the province. I have truly been blessed to have been
able to travel almost across this province, from Ottawa to Windsor
and up to Thunder Bay, and be welcomed by everyone I have had the
opportunity to meet.
As I have said many times, this is your association, and
together we make it what it is today – an association to be
proud of, to be part of and to care for. Thank you to everyone on
the current executive, who all have given of their time freely for
the betterment of this association. And thank you to the vendors,
who stand up and help to make every event a success, to the
employers, for allowing their employees to attend our functions,
and to the families, who give up time with mom, dad, husband or
wife, and to the members, who we do all of this for. Thank you!
May there always be work for your hands to do.
May your purse always hold a coin or two.
May the sun always shine upon your window pane.
May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain.
May the hand of a friend always be near and
May God fill your heart with gladness and cheer.
